“C.R.E.W. stands for the Committee Responsible for Enhancing Widener. The C.R.E.W. Leaders are students who are selected through a competitive application process that represent all cross-sections of the Widener Pride. Their primary role is to assist the Office of Student Engagement in our Pride Experience Programs in June and August. They are a guide, mentor, and liaison to new students - first-year or transfer students. They assist with various activities during Summer Registration and Orientation including Convocation, Pride Night evening programs, Move-In Day, and Welcome Back Bash! They are the smiling face, helpful hand, and guiding force for getting students engaged and connected during Orientation. C.R.E.W. Leaders are also able to volunteer for special projects throughout the year when OSE needs assistance in different capacities.” says Jeanine Snow the advisor for CREW.C.R.E.W. is an amazing organization here on campus that does an amazing job of making an easier transition for incoming students. In February there was a C.R.E.W. processing day for all students who were interested in becoming a part of this great organization. From there 19 new students were chosen to be a part of C.R.E.W. These new students paired with the 20 returning students, means we have 39 total C.R.E.W. members. Nick, the captain of logistics, talked about what the process is like to join and why one should. “I think students at Widener should look into applying for C.R.E.W. because it offers any student a space to grow. Students gain an immense amount of knowledge on how to be a leader on campus, not just in the orientation setting. C.R.E.W. can also open many doors to new relationships that could be vital to a student’s success story. The C.R.E.W. application offers an applicant many opportunities to show who they are. The application process is smooth and is open for quite some time for students to fill out. It offers questions about experiences with diversity, teamwork, and leadership. Its most important part is the “Self-Advertisement.” With this, a student can develop any sort of advertisement to show themselves off. Some students choose a PowerPoint, some choose a simple video, some choose making a flier, or some even take it to TIK TOK.” Jeanine explains what C.R.E.W. does. “C.R.E.W. Leaders assist with all 6 of our Pride Experience I Days; this is summer registration where students get their course schedule and connected to other incoming students to Widener. They also assist with Pride Experience II, which is Orientation. So whether it’s greeting people as they walk into the University Center, checking them in and getting them their schedules and orientation materials, leading small group facilitation, or talking in front of large crowds, C.R.E.W. is always assisting. Throughout the course of Pride Experience II, C.R.E.W. leads sessions, assists with all programming efforts, and does A LOT of setups. They are up at 6:00 AM putting balloons out, setting up tables, carting snacks around campus, and doing tons of behind the scene things. They also help Pride Activities Council staff Welcome Back Bash. Throughout the school year, C.R.E.W. assists with various programs through the Office of Student Engagement including Involvement Fair, Panels, and special opportunities like hiring committees, and more.” Morgan Ferriola, the co-captain for programming talked a lot about how much C.R.E.W. means to her. “CREW means family to me. Our main objective is to assist in the Orientation program
and make sure first-year students are comfortable here, but throughout that process, I have found a wonderful group of people who are my best friends and greatest supporters. We truly are a family. The leaders within CREW have made me the person I am today. Without finding this little family, I don’t think I would have enjoyed my college experience as much. Even throughout the pandemic, I could feel the support of the other CREW Leaders no matter where we were.” C.R.E.W. is an amazing opportunity on campus and we are so excited for the new members and are so grateful for the organization.
