Dare to Defy. A powerful theme of this year’s courage week. Courage week is a week dedicated to showing students deviation to have courage throughout every situation. The Apogee Scholar put months of work into this event, typically it is a day-long event, but this year Widner is celebrating all week long. Apogee Scholars is a leadership program here on campus. In high school students are nominated by their teachers and principals, and then they are offered a scholarship to Widener with an invitation to join the program. This year’s courage week has a lot of events to help keep people entertained and celebrate their courage. On Monday, April 4th from 4-6 pm on Memorial Field, there is Kick-Off to Courage, which is a campus-wide soccer tournament, where students and staff can form a team to play soccer against each other, and the winner wins 6 tickets to a Union Game. Tuesday, April 5th the theme for the day is Courage Rocks, the Apogee Scholars have already gotten together to paint rocks, and these rocks will be laid around campus. If a student finds a hidden rock they will take a picture with it and tag @apogeescholars on Instagram, by doing this they will be entered into a raffle. Also on Tuesday, there will be the hashtag #daretodo,Apogee’s Instagram will be filled with different prompts and activities for students to do on social media. Lastly on April 5th, from 3 pm-close, the Apogee Scholars will be having a fundraiser at Pancheros Grill in Media, all you have to do is mention Apogee Scholars when you buy something. Wednesday, April 6th has two events that are a must-go. The first is the Courage Fair which is being held from 11-1 in the UC Atrium. During this event over 15 organizations will be tabling with different games to show what they do to Dare to Defy.
