YOUTH VS. THE CORONA VIRUS

By Sarah Hurley

Wear your mask! Social distance! Wash your hands as often as possible! These are all phrases every individual has heard since the outbreak of the Coronavirus.

The outbreak of the Coronavirus has had a major impact on every individual. Today’s youth have spoken up about the impact of the Coronavirus and how serious it is. It has had a major impact on the world and has changed numerous aspects of daily life.

I recently had the opportunity to talk to Zora DeSeignora, a sophomore exploratory studies major.

When asked how she felt about the virus, DeSeignora explained “the dangers of the Coronavirus are very concerning because it can be life threatening and thousands of people have died from this disease. If anything, I feel that it’s necessary to follow guidelines to keep other people safe as well as myself. I wouldn’t want to get sick and I wouldn’t want to get anyone else sick. This is an unusual situation for everyone.”

DeSeignora also talked about how the virus has affected her personally. “I have not lost anyone close to me due to the Coronavirus, but it has caused changes in my life.” said DeSeignora. “Now I’m doing college online, which is a whole different adjustment. Not only are my courses all online, but so are my clubs and volunteer activities. Also, I’m used to seeing family members or friends often and since we are in a pandemic and I’m virtual learning, that has been limited. I also work in customer service, so I’m more conscious about what I touch and sanitizing.”

I personally think everyone should be taking this virus seriously. I’m concerned and anxious about how the future is going to look. People need to follow the guidelines that are in place to protect themselves and others. This is a difficult time for everyone, and I hope we can one day overcome this virus.

Please wear a mask and practice social distancing as often as you can! As a community, we need to work together to stay safe and healthy!
