PRIDE ACTIVITIES COUNCIL HIGHLIGHT

By Sarah Hurley

Pride Activities Council (PAC) is a group of amazing leaders who seek to enhance every student’s college experience by providing fun, exciting programs and activities for all to enjoy!

I recently had the opportunity to interview Pride Activities Council’s executive board to gain insight into their organization and the many benefits it has to offer.

What is Pride Activities Council?

“Pride Activities Council is the main student led programing organization on campus. We help bring events to campus and help students have fun throughout the semester.”

How can someone get involved with Pride Activities Council?

“Come to our monthly general member meetings. These occur every month, on Thursday, at 6 p.m. in the University Center in Room C. Students can also send us a message on social media or email us to let us know they are interested in getting involved. Feel free to come up to any of our members, at our events, and let us know you would like to get involved as a general member. We are always willing to give information on how to get involved!

If other clubs would like to collaborate with us on an event, feel free to email us anytime!”

Do you have any upcoming activities or events?

“On Monday, November 29th, we are hosting a Make It Take It in the University Center Atrium. Students can stop by anytime between 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. to make a scrabble coaster.

We are also hosting Winter Fest, in collaboration with FSL, on Friday December 3rd, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the Kapelski Parking Lot and University Center Atrium. Join us for ice skating, food vendors, inflatables, and more as we celebrate the season and relax before the semester comes to an end.

On Monday, December 6th, we are holding a Stress Buster event from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the University Center Atrium. Please join us to destress before you take your final exams!”

What are the benefits of joining the Pride Activities Council?

“Students involved with PAC really have a chance to get involved on campus, since we hold a lot of events each semester. As a member of PAC, you get to know a lot of other organizations and the people who work in the Office of Student Engagement. This organization is a great way to collaborate with smaller groups that aren’t really seen as much on campus. This is a great way to show off what the university has to offer. The Pride Activities Council provides a great learning experience and truly allows someone to be creative.”

Who are your current E-Board members?

“President – Zoe Scruggs

Variety and Excursions Coordinator – Dimple Gandevia

Public Relations Coordinator – Miranda Yanzuk

Special Events Coordinator – Mia Muchisky

Diversity and Leadership Coordinator – Amaka Oduah”

The executive board also took the time to talk about why they personally joined the organization and their favorite aspect about PAC.

Zoe Scruggs

What is your position?

“President.”

Why did you decide to join PAC?

“I have always enjoyed the events PAC organized. I also enjoy planning events, so PAC was a great fit for me. When I first joined, I started out as the graphic designer. I then moved up to excursions, before I eventually became the president!”

What is your favorite aspect or memory of PAC?

“My favorite memory of PAC is my first bingo. During winter of last year, I was put in charge of hosting Bingo. Everyone was listening to my ideas and helped make this Bingo successful.”

Dimple Gandevia

What is your position?

“Variety and Excursions Coordinator.”

Why did you decide to join PAC?

“PAC has always held a lot of events on campus. During my first two years in the organization, I was a general member. I then moved up to be an executive board member.”

What is your favorite aspect or memory of PAC?

“My favorite aspect of PAC is that I get to organize and plan my own events. I can also help run other events, even though they aren’t mine. PAC is a great way to get involved. Since there are two leads for every event, people can choose to host the events that interest them.”

Miranda Yanzuk

What is your position?

“I am the Public Relations Coordinator. I handle all graphics and PAC’s social media.”

Why did you decide to join PAC?

“I joined PAC because I was searching for an organization where I could grow in terms of leadership and personal passions / interests. PAC has a lot of room for creativity, which is something I love, since I am an extremely artistic person. This organization is also a great learning experience. I can help out in every aspect, which allows me to grow in different skill sets.”

What is your favorite aspect or memory of PAC?

“My favorite aspect of PAC is how flexible everything is. Everyone does a little bit of everything, which is great. I joined PAC during COVID, so I liked how everyone could find a solution and get around obstacles in a short amount of time. It was amazing to see how we were still able to maintain university and organization pride!”

Mia Muchisky

What is your position?

“I am PAC’s Special Events Coordinator. I handle all special events and the larger events we host, such as Homecoming, Winter Fest, and the Welcome Back Bash.”

Why did you decide to join PAC?

“I joined PAC to become more involved with campus life. This organization has given me the opportunity meet more people and help them become more engaged with different activities on campus.”

What is your favorite aspect or memory of PAC?

“My favorite aspect about PAC is that I have the opportunity to evolve and build my leadership skills.”

Amaka Oduah

What is your position?

“I am the Diversity and Leadership Coordinator. I am the lead on all collaborations with PAC.”

What is your favorite aspect or memory of PAC?

“My favorite memory was our first Murder Mystery. I had never seen an event that big run just by students!”
