SURCA: STUDENTS AT WORK WITH RESEARCH

By Vincent Csercsevits

How COVID-19 Repercussions had a Positive impact on Student Outcomes During Field Experience

Sara Schoneman, Department of Psychology

What made you choose this research project?

I took an educational psychology course, and my research was interrupted by COVID-19 so I could connect with my project from my personal experience.

I reached out to Dr. Simons for research opportunities and this topic was particularly great to

show resilience of students under the challenges posed by COVID-19.

What was the most interesting part of your research?

It was interesting to find out that COVID-19 positively impacted students learning outcomes. Students continued to gain skills and work opportunities even during the pandemic.

Tyler Apple

What was the most challenging part of the research?

Finding the correct parameters to run the procedure to match its procedure in 2005 proved to be difficult. This research experiment was done numerous times before, so we wanted to be able to replicate the procedure and compare our results to those of past experiments.

How did you come across this research opportunity?

I took a chemistry literature class which provided an assignment to talk about research opportunities. I asked Dr. Martin about research opportunities and started initial research which took a year and a half.

How did you choose your research topic?

Dr. Suarez reached out for research opportunities in communications research.

What was the most interesting part of your research?

Figuring out how to get around things. The general power level fixing, unexpected power level problems, and stuff like that were challenges in the research process which we had to figure out.
