CREATIVE: KOLBEY WOODARD

Kolbey Woodard is a junior business marketing major at Widener University, Kolbey plays as a shooting guard for widener’s basketball team. Growing up, Woodard has always been artistic, always taking art classes from elementary to highschool, it’s something he enjoyed. During quarantine, Woodard started to paint on canvases out of boredom. It wasn’t until his mother asked him to paint her sneakers is when he got his idea to paint sneakers. After he painted her shoes she told him, he can make money from painting shoes, then he painted his brothers and thus the idea was made into reality. Woodard posted his sneakers on social media and was getting recognition off of his shoes.
His favorite shoes he designed were a pair of Nike sneakers with an ombre sunset in the background with silhouette palm trees with specks of blue. “It was my most time-consuming shoe.” Woodard says that this design shows his versatility. Woodard’s favorite shoes to design on are Air Force ones because it’s white blank canvas. He feels it’s easier to work with.
In the future Woodard hopes to design clothing, starting off with jeans, and then jean jackets and t-shirts. One day Woodard wants to open his own store. “I intend to be my own boss one day. I can definitely see it happening. It’s going to take some work.” He doesn’t intend to be a small business all his life. He hopes to one day open a store with his custom designs and also have clients bring in clothes that they would like to be customized, you can also trade and sell customized items in this store. For now Woodard is looking forward to 2021 with a lot of ideas up his sleeve he believes that this will be a big year for him.
