SENIOR ADVICE COLUMN

Sarah Hurley

Going into college as a first-year student can be hard enough on its own. Many students are on their own for the first time and have new responsibilities, which can be hard to manage without guidance. Here is some advice from this year’s seniors to help you adjust and make the most out of your college experience!

“You should always try to step outside your comfort zone once a month.” - Zoe Scruggs

“College is what you make of it! Take advantage of every opportunity you can and get involved. If you only focus on academics, you’ll miss a huge part of the Widener experience. Go to Bingo, join a club, participate in homecoming, or do whatever you want, just make the most out of the opportunity you’ve been given by coming here!” - Megan Sharp

“Make your college experience unique! Gain skills and experience in your desired profession early on, so that you’re already prepared for when you get a job in the real world. Make sure to create a LinkedIn early on, specifically during your freshman or sophomore year.” - Ciana Bowers

“Find friends to study with. If you aren’t learning and having fun, nothing is going to stick!” - Ryley Harris

“Complete your assignments early and try to get involved earlier, even if you just become a general member. Also pay attention in class and try to go to sleep early.” - Dimple Gandevia

“Always ask questions and look at college as a time to grow! Yes, we are here to pave our career paths, but we are also here to learn more about ourselves and to grow and develop as young adults. So, don’t be afraid to ask questions and get involved in at least one club that you really enjoy.” - Zora DeSeignora

“You don’t need to spend money to have fun. Make memories and try not to worry about money too much.” - Diana Quintino

“Make the most of your time. Don’t spend so much time focusing on school that you forget to enjoy your time here.” - Eliyah Kraynak

“Take care of your mental health before it’s not an option to anymore.” - Rebecca Alexander

“Try new things and put yourself out there. Things might seem scary or strange at first but just putting your foot forward will really help with a lot of things.” - Kyle Korthaus

Tune in next semester for more advice from Widener’s seniors!
